Mifflinburg, PA Selects Nexgrid’s Smart Grid Solution

Locust Grove, VA. August 25, 2014 - Nexgrid, a leader in high-speed standards-based smart grid solutions that enhance energy efficiency and utility operations, announced that the Borough of Mifflinburg, PA has selected Nexgrid for a full scale roll-out of a smart grid and advanced metering of the towns electric and water meters. The deployment will consist of Nexgrid’s street light mounted Multi-Mesh® solution to deliver advanced utility services to the Pennsylvania town.
After reviewing proposals from a number of Smart Grid technology companies, Mifflinburg selected Nexgrid on the basis of their sophisticated multi-tier architecture and proven technology that is easily installed and maintained.
“Nexgrid was the clear choice for our requirements, as the technology provides a strong foundation for the smart grid system, while also leaving us with a range of options for future smart grid applications,” said Margaret Metzger, Borough Manager at Mifflinburg. “We believe that Nexgrid’s Multi-Mesh technology will provide us with a robust, full feature, smart grid.”
The deployment will provide operational improvements and enhanced billing capabilities for Mifflinburg. Nexgrid’s system will provide real-time outage notification, distribution management, electric and water meter reading, advanced analytical capabilities for energy usage, customer web portal and intelligent streetlight control.

The Borough of Mifflinburg is one of only 35 municipalities in Pennsylvania that provide electric service to residents. The Borough began providing electricity in 1902 using power generated by a hydraulic power plant located near Millmont. In September of 1907, electric meters were installed and in 1931 a new substation was built at which time the Borough began to purchase power from Pennsylvania Power and Light Company.
